[Pic Gallery] Areas pride and Independence Day Cup

The football-crazy Garden City pockets fought for pride in the Independence Day Cup held at the ground adjacent to the Bangalore East Railway station, Frazer Town.

Commonly known as the Black tournament (Black as in not a registered tournament), this was the 59th edition. Independence Day Cup is a 7-a-side version, which is played bare feet with regular football rules including off-side.

This tournament is extremely popular among the football-loving crowd - with full house attendance in a small stadium that may bring any I-League game into shame.

Players - many from I-League and Super Division clubs turn up for teams from respective residential areas. The 59th year of the tournament saw 64 teams with Ambedkar Nehrupuram Football Club, Cox Town winning the prestigious cup.
