Shankar set to return to Bangalore

If the unofficial sources are to be believed, one more local talent will be soon added to the Bengaluru FC team rooster. Kolar born Shankar Sampingi Raj represented India in all junior ranks, has been signed on loan, and will be turning out for the JSW-owned in the coming I-League matches.

One might recall that Shankar was the original choice for the Bangalore-based team. When the stage was all set for this talented defender to return to his home state, AIFF pointed out that Shankar is their contracted player till 2014, and he is obliged to play for their developmental team Pailan Arrows.

Situation worsened in late August, when AIFF decided to discontinue Pailan Arrows. The only hope for Shankar was the IMG-promoted New League, but with New League failing to gather any momentum, the event got postponed to a later date.

This only left him with signing for an I-League club on loan, very similar to his Pailan teammates, who have joined Dempo, MohunBagan, and so on.

While the Bengaluru FC core team has being set, playing an excellent game of football, and especially leading the table with a clear 3-points lead, it would be difficult for Shankar to break into the starting XI, much like his other state teammates like Manju, Kuttymani, Don Bosco, Amoes.

This is indeed a new leash to Shankar’s life, which was otherwise plagued with injuries. Hope me makes best use of it!
