Ozone begin their I-League second campaign division with a win over South United

South United Media

Ozone FC started their second division I-League campaign with a 1-0 win over South United.   The game was on a knife’s edge till the very end, finally Ozone’s discipline won against a visiting South United FC side that created but couldn’t finish off their chances.

The first few minutes saw Ozone FC dominate midfield and push forward as South United FC struggled to find their feet in the game. A couple of early efforts from the home side were thwarted by the SUFC custodian Jayanth Kumar. The home side came particularly close when a chipped effort form Ozone hit the crossbar and went behind for a goal kick.

SUFC got more of a grip in the game as the half wore on and restricted Ozone to fewer chances, however, they struggled to create at the other end thanks to a disciplined defensive performance from David Booth’s men.

The game had little movement off the ball from either side, but Ozone FC showed more of a threat going forward with more incisive passing and positioning.

The second half began with South United threatening in the early minutes. They pegged Ozone FC back for the early parts of the half with good constant pressure on them but were unable to capitalize.

In the 72nd minute, Ozone got their chance as their forward was brought down in the box. Only having been on the pitch for three minutes, the substitute striker Manvir Singh stepped up to take the spot kick and made no error slotting the ball to the keeper’s right and sending him the wrong way.

Ozone were determined to keep their slender lead but the goal breathed life into the SUFC attack as they pelted the Ozone goal with all they could in the last 15 minutes. A penalty claimed denied and a header that missed by a hair’s breadth was what separated the sides in the end.

South United smash six past CIL

South United Media

The 6-0 scoreline was an accurate reflection of an immensely one-sided tie as South United FC ran away with 6 goals without reply from CIL who struggled to get a foot in the game.

An early goal kicked off the game on the right note for SUFC as Manivannan found the back of the net from close range to give them the lead in the 3rd minute. Most of the first 45 minutes was spent with CIL camped in their own half defending South United’s attacks.

With better finishing, South United FC should have been at least 3 goals ahead in the first 15 minutes, but their touch in front of goal failed them on many an occasion. The second goal came in the 26th minute through a defensive error and Kishori was on hand to capitalise and put it past the CIL keeper who found himself in no man’s land.

The second half wasn’t too different from the first as South United kept a strong hold on the game, but CIL seemed to show more grit. They proved a much tougher nut to crack in the second half but Kishori was on hand again in the 62nd minute to make the score 3-0. That goal opened up the floodgates for South United FC as 6 minutes later the substitute Riswanali added to the scoreline.

Kishori topped a great team performance with a hattrick which he completed in the 78th minute. South United weren’t finished though, they found a goal in the 90th minute through midfielder Thapa who finished form inside the box as a wayward ball arrived at his feet.

A dominant performance to end the BDFA Super Division 2018-19 season for South United FC was just what the doctor ordered for them as they gear up to compete in the Hero Second Division League.

Bengaluru hammer CIL 11-0

Bengaluru FC Media

Champions Bengaluru FC ended their campaign in the BDFA Super Division League on a high after a massive 11-0 win over CIL in their final league game at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Sunday. Having already sealed their title with win over ASC three days ago, Naushad Moosa’s boys didn’t take their foot off the pedal and sealed their eleventh victory of the campaign which incidentally was also their biggest-ever win.

The victory was powered by striker Edmund Lalrindika (20’, 24’, 37’, 43’, 62’, 78’) who netted a double hat-trick along with braces from Lalnuntluanga (13’, 46’) and Lalengzama Vangchhia (15’, 39’), and a late strike from Calvin Baretto (88’). The result meant that Bengaluru ended their victorious campaign with 34 points.

In a completely one-sided affair, it was Bengaluru who dominated right from the start and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute. Striker Lalnuntluanga managed to chase down a through ball from Dawan on the right before firing home from a narrow angle from the goal line. Two minutes later, playmaker Lalengzama capitalized on some sloppy play by the rival defense outside their box and slotted home from close.

Striker Edmund scored the first of his six goals on the afternoon when he controlled Lalengzama’s delicate chip from the edge of the box to beat the rival custodian and score from close to make it 3-0. Four minutes later, Edmund had his second and BFC’s fourth when he picked up a pass from Advaith Shinde and unleashed a powerful drive straight into the top-left corner. The striker completed his hat-trick in the 37th minute with another close-range finish on Ajay Chhetri’s pass.

Lalengzama then doubled his tally as he tapped home from close after Ajay did well to get past a couple of defenders on the right inside the box before cutting it back. Edmund made it 7-0 going into the break with another top-corner finish from Prashanth Kalinga’s cutback from the left.

The breather didn’t break Bengaluru’s momentum as the Blue Colts struck inside a minute after restart with Edmund and Advaith combining well on the right before the latter set up Lalnuntluanga for an easy tap in from close.

Edmund the got his fifth of the afternoon with a good finish from Lalengzama’s pass on the edge of the box in the 62nd minute. He netted his sixth and the Blue Colts’ tenth in the 78th minute when Advaith did well to gain possession outside the rival box and dribbled past two defenders before squaring the ball to Edmund.

Attacker Calvin then sealed the 11-0 win when he finished off Ajay’s through ball from the edge of the box on the left into the far corner in the 88th minute.

South United sneak narrow win over Kickstart

South United Media

Despite missing a few key players through injury and suspension, South United FC team managed a 1-0 victory over a determined Kickstart FC.

South United dictated all the early play keeping the ball and passing it around, but their task was made difficult by a resolute and organised Kickstart FC defence. The ball may have been South United FC’s but all the chances in the first half fell to Kickstart FC. South United FC’s goalkeeper Jayanth kept them in the game with a stellar few saves.

Wave after wave of SUFC attacks looked toothless for most of the first half with Kickstart’s low block in defence forcing them wide on most occasions. Kickstart should’ve been ahead on several breaks they had, the most notable being their striker being played through on goal and the SUFC custodian stranded having found himself at the edge of his box with the striker bearing down on him. Jayanth rushed back into position and a moment’s indecision from the striker meant that the eventual shot was wide.

South United spent overall at least 5 minutes of the first half playing with 10 men as their centre back Krishanu was treated for a blow to the head. He returned to the pitch for a short while, but eventually was unable to continue.

His replacement was Kishori, which meant a reshuffle sending defensive midfielder Sharukh Rahman to slot in beside Nidhin Krishna as makeshift centre back, Sooraj moving into midfield, and Kishori leading the line.

They remained ineffective going forward as the half drew to a close. Kickstart threatened on a couple more occasions, but their finishing let them down
The second half began with more of an ebb and flow, both sides seemed to be going for the goal, but neither could find a penetrative attack in the early minutes.

Kickstart forged the first real chance of the second half through some clever play down the right wing on a break. The winger beat the South United left back in a footrace and played in a low cross to find a team-mate, but his ball was just behind the onrushing striker and smacked against a defender before being collected by the keeper.

South United FC found the goal they had been looking for as Riswanali was brought down on the left flank closer to the halfway line than the goal. Magesh stood over the freekick and played Manivannan through. The little winger ran onto the ball, knocked it past the defender and ran past him to knock in a cross that found Sooraj who made no mistake with his head from 6 yards out to give his side the lead.

Kickstart FC almost had the perfect response at the other end as they threatened from kick off, but the striker couldn’t keep his shot low under pressure from Nidhin. The goal breathed life into the South United FC attack, they seemed to find the openings they were missing earlier as Kickstart threw men forward as well.

The last few minutes saw both sides exchanging blows but SUFC showed strength and calm to keep their lead and collect all 3 points.

Bengaluru colts school Students Union in 9-0 thrashing

Bengaluru FC Media

Bengaluru FC bounced back to winning ways in the BDFA Super Division League with a 9-0 thrashing of Students Union in a Round-3 encounter at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Friday. Leon Augustine’s hat-trick (18’, 46’, 87’) and Naorem Roshan Singh’s brace (10’, 20’) powered the big win as Asheer Akhtar (22’), Calvin Baretto (71’), Myron Mendes (72’) and Edmund Lalrindika (80’) too got on to the scoresheet.

Going into the game, Coach Naushad Moosa made three changes to the line-up, handing starts to defender Biswa Darjee, midfielder Ajay Chhetri and BFC U15s 'keeper Herojit Singh who made his debut.

After some early chances which were thwarted by Students Union goalkeeper Calvin Abhishek, the Blue Colts broke the deadlock in the 10th minute after attacker Roshan Singh controlled and smashed home Biswa Darjee's outside-of-the-boot cross in from the left.

Moosa's boys kept the tempo high and netted three more times in a span of five minutes. Leon doubled the lead when he headed in Ajay Chhetri's deft chip in from the left in the 18th minute before Roshan completed his brace two minutes later. SUFC failed to clear Ajay's cross in from the left and Roshan reacted quickest to finish to make it 3-0.

The score was 4-0 just two minutes later when defender Asheer Akhtar fired home a low drive from the edge of the box on the right as the Blue Colts ran riot.

The second half began explosively as Bengaluru struck inside 30 seconds. Striker Parag Shrivas capitalised on a weak back pass to gain possession and slid it across the goal from the right to find Leon at the far post for his second of the game.

The Blue Colts continued to push ahead then struck twice in two minutes. Substitute Calvin Baretto scored the sixth of the game, tapping home Biswa’s pass from the right after Altamash did well to find the wing-back clear in the box. A minute later, Edmund Lalrindika, on for Ajay Chhetri, set up Myron Mendes with his first pass of the game, as the skipper slid it past Abhishek to make it 7-0.

Bengaluru then struck twice more in the final ten minutes. Edmund controlled Biswa's cross in from the right and scored on his second attempt after the first one was blocked, and then claimed his second assist when he set up Leon to complete the latter’s hat-trick with three minutes left to play.

The Blue Colts next take on Kickstart FC on 24th November.

South United smash Eagles, register second win

South United FC Media

Putting the ghosts of their 0-3 defeat in their previous game, South United came out on top against Bangalore Eagles, and recorded a 3-0 win.

After a cagey first 10 minutes, South United started gaining some ground in the game. They began to threaten through Riswanali and Aaron on the wings. In the 14th minute, Aaron found Riswan in the box with a looping cross which took the attacker slightly wider than he would have hoped, but he cut back in and skipped past a challenge before making some space for himself to register the first goal of the game.

The goal gave SUFC impetus which saw them register two more great chances in the 5 minutes following the first strike. The Eagles were able to regain some semblance of control following that patch of chaos as they slowed the game down.

The boys clad in orange played with more confidence after the first goal but saw the play disrupted often by some poor challenged from Eagles.

The second half saw a similar pattern as the first 10 minutes of the game as both teams struggled to get a hold of the game. A 56th minute stunner from Nidhin woke the stadium as he found himself in the opposition box on the right and smashed one home from the outside of his right boot. The strike left everyone including the Eagles goalkeeper befuddled as to how the strike had ended up in the goal.

The second goal for South United FC saw the Bangalore Eagles try and find some more incisiveness in their attack and they started to threaten through some long-range shots and crosses cut back from the touchline. It drew some breath-taking saves from the SUFC custodian Jayanth.

The home side put the outcome of the game to bed in the 85th minute as Aaron was played through on goals and he was brought down as he tried to skip past the keeper. Shinu put away the resulting penalty with a low hard finish to the goalkeeper’s right.

Some solid defending and more commanding work from Jayanth in goal ensure that South United FC finished with a clean sheet.
