      Airtel Rising Stars postponed indefinitely

      Call it an over-dependence of one ground or paucity of quality decent grounds, the annual U-16 Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) Bangalore leg, which was slated for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 20, has been postponed. 

      As many as 58 teams were participating in this inter school event, accordingly the ground was reserved for this event, from August 20 thru September 5. However, the schedule is clashing with JSW Sports, who using the same ground for the senior team as well as for setting up their academy. 

      BDFA has postponed this event for now, they are going to meet the KSFA committee members tomorrow afternoon to find out a solution. 

      There is no entry fee for this tournament and unlike last year, this year’s ARS will be played in a different format (inter-school), which will include players from Mangalore and Mysore. 

      Watch out for this space for the new schedule!

      BDFA to conduct trials for Airtel Rising Stars 2013

      Indian telecom giant Airtel has entrusted BDFA to conduct trials for the Bangalore leg of Airtel Rising Stars Football Championship 2013. 

      In the last edition, a total of 52 players were shortlisted from 16 cities. The final round was played at the Bangalore Football Stadium.

      There is no entry fee for this tournament and the children from the Bangalore schools are eligible to participate. 

      Also, this edition of Airtel Rising Stars is being played at the other cities of Karnataka - Mysore and Mangalore. The selected players from these cities will join the Bangalore players for the qualification stage.

      Manchester United-bound boys for training

      Surely going to be a lifetime experience for the 12 kids who toiled hard to bag the coveted Manchester United  Airtel Rising Stars (ARS)!

      52 shortlisted players from 16 cities were put through their paces by four Manchester United coaches - Michael McClean, Mick Bennett, Andrew Cunningham, and Kevin O’Connell. The players were divided into four teams of 12 each and were tested on some specific parameters - physical attributes, individual skills, match situations and their performances in actual matches before 12 of the best players were chosen to travel to Manchester United for a week and to train alongside the Manchester United Academy team. 

      The 5-day camp was a culmination of the three month long talent hunt that was conducted across 16 cities with the support of the respective state and district associations.

      Bryan Robson: To develop a country, you need a good youth development program

      Manchester United legend and former FIFA World Cup captain for England Bryan Robson was right here at the Garden City. 

      Robson, the Global Brand Ambassador of Man U came to the city to inaugurate the final leg of the Airtel Rising Stars (ARS), which will be conducted by the Manchester United (Man U) coaches. 

      Robson devoted some good time with the journos, who like many were quite ecstatic to see the living England and Manchester United football legend!

      Airtel Rising Stars to train with Manchester United coaches

      The final lot of 52 U-16 Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) will undergo a rigorous 5-day long training under the watchful eyes of the four Manchester United (Man U) coaches – Michael McLean, Mick Bennett, Andrew Cunningham, and Kevin O’Connell. 

      Their training will commence from tomorrow, Tuesday, September 11, at the Bangalore Football Stadium.

      These players will be divided into 4 teams and will be tested on various footballing parameters. The final 12 selected players will get a lifetime opportunity to travel to Man U for a week to train together with the Man U academy team.

      Airtel Rising Stars in the Garden City

      Airtel Rising Stars (ARS), India’s largest under-16 soccer talent hunt will kick off with a bang in Bangalore on Saturday, August 25th, 2012. With more than 2500 talented footballers registering for the three-day auditions to be held at the Bangalore Football Stadium.

      ARS, an initiative by Bharti Airtel, in association with Manchester United, one of the best soccer clubs in the world, is a rigorous scouting program that will cover 16 cities across India and choose 12 talented footballers, who will get the chance-of-a-lifetime to attend a week long training camp at Manchester United Soccer Schools.

      • Giving 12 promising youngsters the chance-of-a-lifetime to train with Manchester United Soccer School and kick-off a career in professional football
      • Bangalore Leg starts from August 25th, auditions August 25 and 26, and final announcement on 27th August.
      Day 1 and 2 will see in action participants from around 40 invited schools who are expected to send in their best teams of 12 players each through Sports School Association.

      In addition to this, on 26th August 2000 players who have registered online www.facebook.come/airtelsoccer for the selection trials will go through the auditions.

      The boys who turn up for the auditions will be put through the paces under the guidance of five coaches-cum-selectors, who will then pick 120 of the most talented players to advance to the next phase. These players will be selected according to criteria based on the aspects mentioned in the Manchester United Scouting Guidelines.  These aspects will dwell on the technical and tactical skills, the physical and mental strengths, the social skills, besides focusing on attitude, behavior, communication, discipline, enthusiasm and fair play.

      The shortlisted 120 players will be informed of their status as well as the venue and timing of the second phase of selections on completion of the first phase. The best three players will be picked from the 120, who will then join their counterparts from the other 15 centres to participate in the six-day final selection trials, scheduled for September.

      The ARS talent hunt will be conducted in 16 cities - Lucknow, Mumbai, Delhi, Goa, Kolkata, Bangalore, Calicut, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kochi, Shilong, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Pune, and Jaipur with the support of the respective State and District Football Associations.

      The unique format of ARS program will ensure that every player gets an equal opportunity to showcase his skills and playing acumen through a series of selection criteria, overseen by renowned and officially certified coaches in each centre. The best three players from each city will then be picked to attend final six-day camp-cum-selection trials by coaches from Manchester United. The 48 players will be divided into four teams of 12 each and will be tested on all parameters, including physical attributes, individual skills, match situations and their performances in actual matches, before 12 of the best players are chosen to travel to Manchester United for a week and to train alongside the Manchester United Academy team.

      In 2009, Bharti Airtel had announced its tie-up with Manchester United to bring a variety of benefits for Airtel’s football loving customers in India.
