BDFA to participate in Don Bosco - Fr. Mcferran Trophy

Winner of 2011 and 2013 edition, BDFA XI is set to participate in the Don Bosco - Fr. Mcferran Trophy. The national-level invitational tournament will be played in DBYC Wisdom Town, Grant Lyon, Red Hills, Chennai. A total of 24 teams is participating this tournament, played between January 11 thru 25. 

Super Division team, ASC is the Bangalore connection in the Don Bosco - Fr. Mcferran Trophy. Other notable teams are Pune FC and Hindustan Eagles (Kerala). BDFA XI will play their first match against Tiruvallur DFA XI on Sunday, January 11, 3.30 pm.

JSW to launch club on Saturday

JSW Sports will be announcing the launch of its new football club at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday evening. Making their I-League debut this season, the club has roped in former Manchester United player Ashley Westwood as coach of the club apart from signing India striker Robin Singh. 

Present at the launch would be JSW chairman and managing director Sajjan Jindal, AIFF president Praful Patel and members from the Karnataka State Football Association. The team would be unveiled at the launch.

Adding local flavour

JSW Sports has signed three Bangalore boys – Kutty Mani, Don Bosco Andrew and Vishal Kumar – the club announced on Saturday. Midfielder Kutty, 26, brings in a fair bit of experience having spent five seasons with Mumbai FC and one at Pune FC. The other midfielder signed is Don Bosco who started out at Bangalore SAI before spending three years at Goa’s SESA Academy. 

Defender Vishal has represented India at the Under 16, 17, 19, 21, and 23 levels apart from being part of the Olympic qualifier and SAFF Cup squads. He has spent three seasons at Arrows/Pailan Arrows.

BDFA to defend the Don Bosco-Fr. McFerran Trophy

Defending champion BDFA will start their campaign against Hindustan Eagles tomorrow at the Don Bosco-Fr. McFerran Trophy. The tournament is played at Red Hills in Chennai. 

BDFA XI had won the tourney on 2006 and 2011, they were runners up on the 2008 edition.

January 27, 2013: BDFA XI keeps back Don Bosco-Fr. McFerran Trophy
BDFA XI successfully defended Don Bosco-Fr. McFerran Trophy, playing against local team Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai at Red Hills today, they defeated 2-0, Sridhar from ADE scored a brace in 61st and 63rd minute.

January 20, 2013: BDFA XI defeated Indian Bank, Chennai 1-0 and reached the final of Don Bosco-Fr. McFerran Trophy in Chennai.

BDFA XI to participate in the Don Bosco - Fr. Mcferran Trophy

The BDFA XI comprising of players from Super division, A division, under-19, and under-21 team will participate in the Don Bosco - Fr. Mcferran Trophy 2011 to be held in Chennai. 

16 teams have entered in this biennial tournament and it will be played on a knock-out format. BDFA XI plays their first match on Monday, January 17 against Brothers Club, Kannur.
 

BDFA XI has won the Don Bosco - Fr. Mcferran Trophy on the 2006 and they were runners up on the 2008 edition.

64th Santosh Trophy: Karnataka beat Meghalaya

The state seniors survived scare from the minnows Meghalaya, but finally pulled up a goal in the dying moments of the match. The match was played in the Municipal Stadium, Khardaha, a suburb of Kolkata. BEML medio Don Bosco scored most-important goal in the 89th minute.

What seemed like an easy match for Karnataka, however, Meghalaya, bolstered with some nifty players from Shillong Lajong FC, put up a stiff challenge to the Karnataka lads.

It was a sort of mini reunion, veteran Gumpe Rime, who kept goal for HAL for many seasons, turned against his former state as he kept Meghalaya’s goal today. Not to forget striker R C Prakash, who starred in many great wins for his former club Mohun Bagan in Kolkata.

Talking to Garden City Soccer Stars from Kolkata, senior player Xavier reckoned that the team played well and made several good moves, however, rued about converting those chances to goal.

“RC, Rajendra Prasad, including myself missed scoring chances. My shot was superbly saved by Gumpe”, said the captain for the last 3 Santosh Trophy editions. “It was even stevens in the first-half. However, we dominated the proceedings in the second-half. Also, Satish jr., who was replaced for RC Prakash played a nice cameo”.
