MEG thru to the Durand Cup main draw

So what the I-League division 1 team from Bangalore, HAL is not being invited in one of the top-level tournament in the country, the century-old Durand Cup. The 123rd edition of Durand Cup does have a Bangalore representation.

City giant killers, MEG, rose up to the occasion, and entered into the main round of this year’s competition.

Placed in Group A in the knockout qualification round, MEG plumed Indian National FC, 6-1 on October 17 and playing in the second round on October 21, they got the better of J & K Bank, 3-1.

MEG needed another win to make it to the main draw of Durand Cup. yesterday, they locked horns against another defense organization, AOC, Secunderabad.

MEG went ahead by a Jiten Metei goal as early as 12th minute of the game. They defended well, however, failed to increase the score line.

With this ecstatic win, MEG is now placed in Group A in the quarter final stage along with last year’s champion, Churchill Brothers and Army Red.


MEG’s quarter final schedule:
  • Wednesday, October 27: Vs Churchill Brothers, Goa
  • Friday, October 29: Vs Army Red
