BDFA C Division - 2011-12

BDFA C Division for the 2011-12 season will commence from Sunday, August 19 at the Bangalore Football Stadium. The year’s edition will be played on a knock-out basis with 65 participating teams. 

All the matches will be played for 30-minutes half. If in case a match ends in a draw, the winner will be decided via tie-breaker. No extra time rule is applied here. 

The finalists (top two teams) will be promoted to B Division.

Nehru Cup 2012: Koevermans has task cut out

Hardly a few days in his office, Wilhelmus ‘Wim’ Jacobus Koevermans is on the task of retaining the Nehru Cup. And this time, the defending champion is the lowest ranked amongst the participating teams.

A tête-à-tête with our newly appointed football coach Wim Koevermans on a day when India’s FIFA ranking hits a new low of 168.

GardenCity Soccer Stars (GCSS): How is it going coach?

Wim Koevermans (WK): It has been going good, weather is excellent, boys are doing their bit, and they are enjoying the training stint here in Bangalore. 
 

GCSS: What was the first thing that stuck in your mind when you took the assignment (of coaching the senior India team)?

WK: It has been hardly any time, however, few areas needed immediate attention, especially, defense. Another important area mid-field, we’re working on it and giving special attention in these areas. Also, giving stress on pressing football.
 

GCSS: There was a last minute change from Noida to Bangalore. Has this shift hampered your preparation?
WK: As you all know the change was due to rain, where we have hardly any control. It is always better to practice smoothly in an away location rather than a close location, which would frequently interrupt our training.
Talking about the climatic change, I don’t think that will matter much. 
 

GCSS: You’ll be playing Nehru Cup in natural turf but the Bangalore Football Stadium turf is artificial, you think that would a major factor?
WK: No, not at all! This is a very good turf and our players have enough experience playing in this kind of turf. Also, not to forget that we’ll have a good five days to practice in natural grass turf after August 16, just before the start of Nehru Cup.
 

GCSS: Just when I talk to you, India has gone down 5 notches, per the latest FIFA ranking India is 168. How do you think about your opponents in Nehru cup, especially Cameroon?
WK: Cameroon is off course a very powerful team. I’m told that they’re sending a team based on the home players, which itself is a strong team.
As I’ve said earlier, our immediate goal is to win the Nehru Cup. Ranking of the other teams are pretty close, we should be able to beat them.

George Hoover Trophy to KGF Academy

The result was already out, Super Division champion KGF Academy (BEML) defeated HAL 2-1 in an exhibition match played top two Super Division teams. 

Attacking medio Dada Khalander gave KGF Academy the lead in 12^th minute. Veteran striker RC Prakash reduced the margin for HAL in the first half. 

Striker Stephen, who has been scoring consistently for KGF Academy netted the winner in the 55^th minute of the match. Top scorer with 11 goals in Super Division, Stephen, also earned the Best Player award. 

Shri  KG Bopaiah, Honorable Speaker of Karnataka State Assembly gave away George Hoover Trophy to KGF Academy. Also, the winning team bagged a cash bonanza of 50,000 rupees given by KSFA. HAL got richer by 30,000 rupees.

HAL posts a convincing win against BEML

HAL 4 (Ajitkumar Singh-52', 77', RC Prakash-58'[p], 76') defeats BEML 2 (Khalander-22'[p], Stephen-43')

Other than HAL rallying strongly in the second half and scoring 4 goals, there were few highlights in a keenly contested HAL-BEML game:

• National referee Vijaya Kumar, famous for his no-nonsense attitude, churned out as many as 7 yellow and one red card.
  Surely something that didn’t go well with HAL coach Chandrasekhar!
•  BEML coach and former international player Raman Vijayan taking field in the 63^rd minute to a rousing welcome from a decent crowd.

BEML started splendidly scoring two goals via Dada Khalander (penalty) and Stephen in the first half. Ajitkumar pulled one quickly to reduce in the margin in the second half. 

BEML coach went on an attacking mode by bringing himself by replacing a defender. The ploy which did bear any fruit other than conceding 3 goals in quick succession. BEML defense look too feeble and HAL fully utilized the opportunity.

Later Raman explained his rationale of fielding himself as his injury-plagued side is not having enough players fit players. 

With only a match left HAL is leading the pack, BEML's prospect received a major dent after today's loss. 

Super Sunday when HAL take on MEG!

Students Union defeats HAL

This was never going to be an easy game for HAL! Students Union, after a well fought and hard earned Super Division promotion, are out there to prove a point. The new promoted team exploited the despair of a disarrayed team and scored a 1-0 victory over HAL. 

The goal came in the 68th minute after a well-planned move from Jai and Philip. Along with John, they moved inside the Hal’s penalty box and Samantha placing the ball into the net.
 

HAL never got their act together and failed to come back to the game. Thanks to some good team work by Students Union! 

Seems like the newly appointed HAL coach, Chandrasekhar did not take the last year A Division runners-up seriously. He needs to study his opponents and come up with a strategy, else it will be tough of the I-League team to be in the title contention.

BDFA league resumes tomorrow

More than 3 months after the unforgettable incident, BDFA has come up with a new league schedule for Super and A Division. 

League is re-starting on this Friday, June 1, 2012 with the following A and Super Division match. Per the BDFA's original schedule, these matches were supposed to the be the first match for the respective divisions . However, postponed due to referees absence.

Karnataka Santosh Trophy players travel without train reservation

It is learnt from a reliable source that the Karnataka State Football Association officials failed to reserve adequate train berths for the Karnataka players traveling to Bhubaneshwar. 

The state team boarded Yeshwantpur-Howrah Express on Monday, May 7, evening and travelled 23 hours without proper seat. Also, learned that several players spent most of their journey time near the passageway close to the loo.  

The state team has reached Bhubaneshwar today night and will be playing their Santosh Trophy match on Friday, May 11, against Nagaland.

State football association’s callousness once again! They took almost a month in planning and preparing the team, but could not secure train tickets in advance. We are neither talking about air travel nor air-conditioned train journey, just a basic train reservation, yet the officials failed to do that. 

Remember our players will be representing the Karnataka state and still we are expecting them to perform well after such a shabby treatment!

Karnataka team for Santosh Trophy 2012

B V Pradeep of Karnataka State Police (KSP) team will lead state team in the 66^th Santosh Trophy, an annual football tournament which is contested by the Indian states and few government institutions.

This year’s edition will be held in Orissa. Karnataka is placed in Cluster V along with Nagaland, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. 

Karnataka will open their campaign on May 11 against Nagaland. The top team qualifies for the Quarter Final Group B, which will be played in a round-robin format along with last year’s Semi Finalist Manipur and Goa and the winner from Cluster III.

Pailan Arrows term to thrash HAL

Riding high on their last win, Pailan Arrows forked out an entertaining game of football and defeated bottom-placed HAL  2-1.

Playing a controlled game and creating several scoring chances, Pailan Arrows took the lead in the 39th minute. A high-ball from the mid-field fell to Ajay Singh in the left-wing. He ran thru the pelanty box and took a powerful crack to the goal, the ball hit the diving HAL keeper Amar Deb and went into the goal.

Post lemon-break saw a revived HAL looking for an equalizer, substitute RC Prakash was controlling the mid-field, and HAL had the maximum possession. A good move from the left flank brought in the equalizer – Malemnganba Meetei’ took a left-footed cross, staying away from the two markers, Nigerian Abdulla Hamza jump was perfect, and had no difficulty in heading the ball to the  goal.

TFA cadet Alwyn Geroge scored the winner in the 82nd minute when the ball was passed to him after playing a series of short passes in the mid-field. The talented striker took a powerful goal-bound shot from the edge of the penalty box.

Pailan Arrows coach Sujit Chakraborty reckoned this victory as a ‘hard fought win’, “We played well and controlled the game in the most of first half. However, we did miss many out of those created chances. HAL too played very well at the starting of first half.”

Chakraborty added, “I’m happy that we won two matches consecutively, we’ll try to play well in our last round match.”


With this win Arrows now have 16 points from 25 matches while bottom placed HAL Bangalore stays at 8 points from 25 outings. 

Two St. Aloysius boys to attend three-day special training by the Celtic coaches

Singreipam and James from St. Aloysius High School are among the 22 players selected on the basis of their performance in the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge final leg to attend the three-day special coaching clinic to be conducted by academy coaches from Celtic Football Club at the Bangalore Football Stadium from April 25 to 27, 2012.

The clinic will be conducted by Mark Reid, Youth Academy Coach and Senior Football Development Officer, Jose Romero, Mark Tobin, Centre of Excellence coaches, and Tom McKay, Development Centre Goalkeeping coach. The clinic will be conducted in two sessions  - 8.30 am to 10.30 am and 4.30 pm to 6 pm.

Following this clinic two to four players will be picked to travel and train at the Celtic Football Club in Scotland for ten days.

Pandua High School Kolkata lifts 2nd Mahindra Youth Football Challenge

Striker Jayanta Murmu and Midfielder Premananda Singha proved a deadly combination for Pandua S.B.S. High School, Kolkata the duo coming together on two occasions to help fashion a 5-0 victory over Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) High School, Delhi and emerge champions of the Mahindra Youth Football Inter-City Challenge 2011-12, promoted by Procam International. The Kolkata lads, who had impressed throughout the tournament, proved too strong for their counterparts from Delhi, slamming in two goals in the first half of the final played at the Bangalore Football Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
 

Mahindra Youth Football Challenge is the Mahindra Group’s commitment to promote football at the grassroots level. 

Mahindra has partnered with Scottish football giants, Celtic Football Club, who will take on the responsibility of training and developing young talent identified through the initiative.

The prolific Premananda Singha struck as early as the seventh minute of the game, set up beautifully by a pass from Murmu. Again on the 24th minute Premananda scored his second goal in the right corner of the ‘D’ circle. In the half time, Kolkata school leading with 2-0.

In the second half, Premananda Singha, allowed space to move in the midfield, continued to make dangerous moves and one of his crosses found Jayanta Murmu in the 27th minute, who headed home to give the Kolkata team 3-0 lead. Jayanta Murmu added one more goal in the 36th minute and take the team lead 4-0. On the 41st minute, Sunil Tudu scored one more goal to give his team 5-0 victory.

2nd Mahindra Youth Football Challenge winner Pandua High School, Kolkata

Pandua S.B.S. High School, Kolkata took home Rs 50,000 for their efforts, while the Central Reserve Police Force High School, Delhi had to be content with Rs 30,000.

Pandua S.B.S. High School Jayanta Murmu was adjudged the best striker, while the best goalkeeper award went to Anuj Kumar of Central Reserve Police Force High School, Delhi, Mangal Murmu of Pandua S.B.S. High School, Kolkata was named best Midfielder, while the best defender was Sufaid Ali. MSP HSS. (Kerala).

All the winners received the trophies and certificates from Chief guests, Ulganathan, former national player), with Armuayanayagam, Asian gold medalist, A. R. Khalil, President, KSFA, and M P Swamy, Chairman, BDFA.

Fixture of Mahindra Youth Football Challenge 2011-12 Finals

The final round of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge 2011-12 kicks off on Thursday, April 19 at the Bangalore Football Stadium. The matches will be played on a round-robin basis and the top two teams will qualify for the grand finale, which will be played at on Tuesday, April 14, 4 pm.

All the matches will played for 50 minutes, 25 minutes each half, with 10 minutes of lemon break.
