State selection trials for Junior National Dr. BC Roy Trophy

Trials for Karnataka state team for Junior National U-19 Dr. BC Roy Trophy Tier I will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at Bangalore Football Stadium. 

Junior National Championship, Dr. BC Roy Trophy will be held from December 5 to 15, 2017 at Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

Players born on or after January 1, 2001 and not later than December 31, 2002 are eligible. 

Players attending trail should bring original Birth Certificate issued by Panchayat/Municipal Authorities/Registrar of Births. The date of registration of birth mentioned in the certificate should be within one year of the actual date of birth of the concerned player or school leaving certificate (other than play school) from the first attended recognized school that is clearly indicating the date of birth of the concerned player and also any original photo ID Proof. 

Players have to report on November 8, 11:30 am at Bangalore Football Stadium with any of the above mentioned certificate.

Karnataka boys reach finals of Tier II U19 Nationals

Karnataka state boys defeated Services in the semi-final of Dr. BC Roy Junior National Championship at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today. 

Playing an attacking game, Karnataka took lead in the 15th minute from a Sudeer Kotikela goal. Team extended lead in the 38th minute, scorer Surya S.  Sudeer scored another goal in the second half, finishing with a 3-0 scoreline. 

Team will meet Meghalaya at the Tier II final 4 pm, Thursday, May 4. 
Last time Karnataka reached final was seven seasons back at Mandya where they eventually emerged champions.

This team coached by former HAL player Ravi Kumar, who meticulously prepared the boys for 30 days. Interestingly, as a player and captain, Ravi Kumar won the same trophy at the same city in the 80s.

Sourav’s brace helps Bengaluru draw against RWF

Bengaluru FC’s reserve side played a 2-2 draw against Rail Wheel Factory in their second clash of the BDFA Super Division at the Bangalore Football Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Wednesday. A brace by striker Sourav TP helped the young Blues secure a point after goals from Jayavandhan S and Madan Kumar in the space of three minutes had given RWF the lead in the second half game.

The Blues were the dominant side for most parts of the match, with Sourav putting one across the RWF ’keeper in the 42nd minute after the reserve team displayed incisive attacking football in the first half.

But RWF leveled the scores in the 69th minute from a penalty slotted home by Jayavandhan, after Blues defender Jestin brought down an RWF player in the box. The youngsters then went down two minutes later as RWF’s Madan Kumar headed in a corner kick.

With the final whistle nearing, the Blues attacked with intent and got through to the RWF net in the 86th minute, as Sourav converted after a scuffle in the box, following a well-placed free-kick by Prashanth Kalinga into the RWF box.

Bengaluru FC next face South United at the same venue on Saturday.

Junior Bengaluru FC goes down to ASC in Super Division

A hat-trick from Jotin Singh scoring goals at the 11th, 54th and 71st minute sealed a 3-1 win for the ASC, as they held a young Bengaluru FC side that could find the net only late in to the game, in the BDFA Super Division League, at the Bengaluru Football Stadium, on Sunday. 

A simple tap-in by Vignesh was a consolation for the young Blues after Seiminlen Doungel, a second-half substitute returning from injury, beat the ASC goalkeeper to hit the cross bar, the ball dropped at the feet of the Blues number 8 who found his name on the score sheet.

Bengaluru FC, dressed in white, started on the offensive but failed to worry the ASC defence. It was mostly easy going for the ASC shot-stopper AK Balwanth, who had just one save to make in the first-half, a 30-yard attempt from Rizul Patiyal.

The ASC team were the stronger of the two and were running the game with their physical presence, finding their way around the Blues' high defensive line.

By the second-half Coach John Kila rung in some changes to bring in striker Seiminlen, who added the much-needed vigour into the Blues' offensive play. Coming back from injury, the number 7 who looks to garner some game time ahead of his return to the senior team, put in a few attempts at the ASC goal, but failed to hit the mark.

The highlight of the match was a 71st minute acrobatic finish by the ASC's Jotin Singh, who found enough space in the Blues' box to complete his hat-trick with an overhead kick which flew past a hapless Bengaluru FC goal-keeper.

A long-ball from the Blues' Ajay Chhetri in the 81st minute found Len Doungel, who beat the keeper but it was a tap-in from Vignesh that helped Blues find the scoresheet.

Bengaluru FC next face Rail Wheel Factory on February 1 at the Bangalore Football Stadium. 

John Kila to head Bengaluru's Youth Development

Bengaluru FC have appointed former West African Football Association U19s Head Coach John Kila to head the Blues' Youth Development Program, the club announced on Saturday. The Dutchman will head the BFC Academy and Youth Teams.

Kila has covered coaching assignments in Holland, Japan, New Zealand and most recently in Ghana as the Head Coach of the U19 team and coordinator of the U17, U15 and U13 teams at the West African Football Academy (WAFA), formerly known as the Feyenoord Ghana Academy.

“My main objective is to train and coach the youth teams at Bengaluru FC and to develop the skills of these youngsters so that they become professional players capable of playing for the first team. I look forward to giving structure to a development plan for both coaches and youth teams with the experience I have gained over the years,” said Kila.

Club COO Mustafa Ghouse expressed his delight at Kila's appointment, pipping his experience as a step in the right direction for the club's youth development program, with the Dutchman having developed several players who are currently active in Portugal, France and Austria.

“We are excited to have John on board to head the youth program. He comes very highly recommended having successfully implemented youth programs in various parts of the world. We strongly believe that there is an abundance of football talent in the country and are committed to providing this talent the best support possible to achieve their true potential as footballers and as individuals,” he said.

Under Kila’s guidance, the WAFA U19s have been promoted from the Second Division to the First Division and are currently in the Ghana Premier League for a second successive year.

Bengaluru win in friendly against India under-19

Goals from Sunil Chhetri, Alwyn George, NS Manju, an on-trial Ericson Lyngdoh and Robin Singh saw Bengaluru FC register a 5-2 win over the India under-19 team in a pre-season friendly played at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Saturday.  

The game, that had a sizeable crowd for a friendly and national coach Stephen Constantine in audience, saw goals from Daniel Lalhimpuia and a free-kick from Bidyananda give the under-19s a 2-1 lead at half time before a dominant second half show from the Blues.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) informs that apart from the I-League and Second Division League teams, Clubs and Academies interested to play in the upcoming U-19 I-League are allowed to participate. 

The primary reason for incorporating such teams in the competition is to increase the participation of the youth of India into the AIFF’s mainstream youth tournament – the U-19 I-League. 

The competition will act as the primary pool from which young talents are chosen for the I-League and Second Division Clubs. 

In order to compete in the U-19 I-League, the teams need to get their youth system accredited through the AIFF Academy’s certification programme, which aims to set a standard of Youth Development in the country through a certification.

A minimum rating of two stars is applicable for such clubs/academies to qualify for the U-19 I-League. 

Colm Toal: Disappointed with today's BFC vs U-19 result

With his team getting thrashed by the leader of I-League, Colm Toal, chief coach, youth development, was a disappointed man. Off-course, nothing much Colm could do with this depleted squad. 

After putting up a spirited performance in the first half, the second string India U-19 boys succumbed to the mighty BFC. Namma-Steelmen got the better of the juniors 4-0, Robin Singh scored 3 and one by Karan Sawhney. 

"We got outplayed today, we played against a very good team, it is like men against boys!" Toll added, "An eye-opener for the boys the standard they need to get to if they want to play in the I-League. The team that we played in the first half was very good and you can see why they are at the top the of I-League with that performance today. A good experience for us!

Colm pointed that his boys played against quality foreigners and Indian players. In his eighteen months together with this group, he has not played against a team with such a physical presence!

Colm hope to play against the Goan clubs in the coming months, "We are hoping we can organize our boys to sign up for I-League clubs. Four have signed for Shillong, but today, they saw what they need to be. Physically, technically and mentally! 

In his final remarks, he sounded impressed with Bengaluru FC, "They've got a good coach, good support staff and quality of players. We need more clubs in India doing what this club is doing."

U-19 I-League Starts early next year, Bengaluru FC to play in Jamshedpur

U-19 I-League is set to start at January next year. AIFF announced this in a seminar held at their Head Quarters yesterday, which was attended by twenty five Representatives from the thirteen I-League clubs. 

Airtel I-League CEO, Sunanda Dhar spoke about his plans for the U-19 I-League, “The reason for the expansion of this form of the league is to bring in more teams from the II Division and the Academies, and give proper exposure to the youngsters who will be the next stars of Indian Football”. 

The League would be played first on a zonal home and away basis, followed by the final-leg in Jamshedpur. The zonal groups will be played in Kolkata, Mumbai, Shillong, Goa, and another group formed by other teams from the Rest of India, which will be played on a single-leg basis in Jamshedpur ahead of the Final-leg. 

Interestingly, the II Division teams and the top academies will form a part of the zonal groupings. The top team from each zone, and two teams from the Rest of India zone, that is a total of six teams will play in round robin format in the final round, which will commence only on mid-April.
