Bengaluru FC wallop MEG

Bengaluru FC Media

Beikhokhei and Siam scored a brace each as Bengaluru Football Club ran out 6-1 winners over MEG in a BDFA Super Division game at the Bangalore Football Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Wednesday. Kim Song Yong and Alwyn George scored the other goals for the Blues, who have now won all three games in the Division, scoring 18 goals in total.

Ashley Westwood handed starts to Hanghal and Malsawmzuala as CK Vineeth and Beikhokhei were rested. And it didn’t take long for the Blues to take the lead with Kim unleashing a peach of a strike from over 25 yards out, leaving ’keeper Amith wrong footed in the MEG goal.

Bengaluru’s second came in similar fashion when, after exchanging passes with Nishu Kumar, Alwyn George curled one in for Hanghal to direct home past Amith. The midfielder scored his second in the 40th minute when he lobbed home from a tight angle after a quick one-two with Udanta to make it 3-0.

With a comfortable lead going into the break, the gaffer rung in two changes, sending on Keegan Pereira and Beikhokhei in place of Nishu and Kim. It didn’t take long for the Blues to extend their lead with Alwyn scoring his second of the day, tapping home Rino Anto’s cross from close range.
Beikhokhei peeled off the MEG defense to meet Udanta’s cut back and get his name on the scoresheet for the second time as a substitute in the tournament to make it 5-0, before scoring another with a lobbed finish past Amith.

MEG claimed a consolation goal in the dying moments of the game when skipper Ajiraj K’s perfectly placed free-kick found the net off the crossbar beyond a hapless Srijit S. in the Blues goal. Bengaluru next face Students Union on Monday.

ASC suffer their second successive defeat

In the Super Division match played at the Bangalore Football Stadium, last year’s Super Division champion, ASC, faltered yet again by going down to South United 2-3. Meanwhile, South United registered their second win from as many matches.

South’s Solai Malai opened the account in the 26th minute after he received the ball from the left flank from Magesh and coolly placed the ball behind the net. Just two minutes later, Manivanan’s powerful shot from a thru ball from Subash gave them their second goal. The third goal for South United came in 51st minute from a header from Magesh.

ASC struggled throughout to penetrate deep into the South United’s territory. It was only when last year’s top scorer Jotin Singh who scored one from a goal-mouth melee in the 60th minute. Deepak scored the second goal for ASC in the 71st minute. In spite several attempts, ASC failed to score the equalizer.

Bengaluru score eleven past Income Tax

Bengaluru FC Media

Four goals from second-half substitute CK Vineeth gave Bengaluru FC a mammoth 11-0 win over a hapless Income Tax side in a BDFA Super Division game at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Sunday.

With the I-League less than two weeks away, Ashley Westwood decided to give as many boys a look in, heavily tweaking the side that beat ASC 1-0 in the campaign opener. John Johnson and Kim Song-Yong were rested as were Udanta Singh, Nishu Kumar and Lalthuammawia Ralte.

The Blues went into half-time with a 2-0 lead after Keegan Pereira opened the scoring with a peach of a finish in the 25th minute. Daniel Lalhlimpuia made it 2-0 from the spot after Income Tax ’keeper Nicolas brought down Len Doungel in the box.

Bengaluru rung in all of their three changes at halftime with CK Vineeth, Alwyn George and NS Manju replacing Lalhlimpuia,Doungel and Curtis Osano. Vineeth’s thumping header in the 59th minute off a Beikhokhei Beingaichho cross made it 3-0 before Bengaluru smashed home three more  - Vineeth, Manju and an own goal - in a space of four minutes, as Income Tax were clueless at what had hit them.

Vineeth completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute when, after smartly exchanging a one-two with Beikho, he shot home with ease.

Alwyn got into the act only five minutes later to ensure all substitutes were on the scoresheet when he picked up a rebound of his own shot at goal to put Bengaluru’s eighth goal away.

Having clocked a brilliant shift down the right all game, Beikho got a reward of his own when he finished off a string of passes with a deft placement beyond Nicolas six minutes to time. But at 10-0, Bengaluru weren’t done yet, this time Siam Hanghal scoring in the 90th before the referee called a halt to IT’s misery with the full-time whistle. Bengaluru FC next take on MEG on Wednesday.

BDFA Super Division - Bengaluru register 1-0 win over ASC

Bengaluru FC Media

A second half strike from CK Vineeth secured three points as Bengaluru FC started their BDFA Super Division League campaign with a 1-0 win over ASC at the Bangalore Football Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Thursday.

Blues gaffer Ashley Westwood handed starts to summer signings Alwyn George, Nishu Kumar and Salam Ranjan Singh as the Blues started well, dominating possession. Alwyn was in the thick of the action from the start, linking up with Udanta, who did well to pick out Kim in the 36th minute, but his header went inches wide of the far post.

Blues striker CK Vineeth had the best chance of the first half, connecting well with Udanta’s cross to send a rasping strike on target but ASC ’keeper AK Balwant was at hand to make the save. Despite consistent spurts at the opposition defence, it was all square the break as both teams headed into the tunnel.

Bengaluru started the second half with the gaffer making three changes, sending on Seiminlen Doungel, Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Curtis Osano for Udanta, Kim Song Yong and John Johnson. The Blues found the net on the hour mark with Alwyn setting Nishu free down the right, the India U19 international picking out CK Vineeth to smash home past Balwant.

ASC had a rare chance in the 77th minute when midfielder Dawa found himself at the end of a cross from Deepak, but Blues’ ’keeper Lalthuammawia Ralte came off his line to deny the equalizer. Bengaluru had a chance to double their lead when Nishu’s lobbed pass found Daniel through on goal, but the striker’s shot was inches high of Balwant’s crossbar.

Balwant was in the thick of the action once again, after Daniel did well to find Doungel free inside the box. Bengaluru face Income Tax in their second clash of the BDFA Super Division League on Sunday.

Bengaluru to play against clubs from Malaysia, Laos, and Myanmar in AFC Cup

Bengaluru FC Media

Bengaluru FC have been grouped alongside Lao Toyota FC, Ayeyawady FC and one of Johor Darul Ta’zim or Pahang FC in Group H of the 2016 AFC Cup, at the draw conducted here at the Asian Football Confederations’ Club Workshop, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday. Having qualified as cup winners after securing the Federation Cup last season, Head Coach Ashley Westwood is confident of his side putting on a good show in Asia once again.

“I’m happy and excited that the draw has finally taken place as it’s been a long wait since we experienced the AFC Cup last season. We enjoyed our time in the competition last year and we gave a good account of ourselves. We’re looking to do the same again this season,” said Westwood.

With the Blues travelling to previously unchartered territory in Laos and Myanmar, Westwood is confident that the trips will help broaden his side’s experience on the Asian circuit.

“You can’t really say whether the draw has been favorable or not, because all the teams are in it by virtue of being champions or cup winners from their own countries. What stands out is two countries we’ve not played in before with Myanmar and Laos. It’s an opportunity for the side to broaden their experience and we’re looking to go out there and put on good performances,” he said.

While Lao Toyota and Ayeyawady FC’s positions in the group are certain, Johor Darul Ta’zim, who won the competition last season will play in the AFC Champions League playoff. Should Johor fail to qualify to the group stages of the Champions League, the Blues would meet familiar foes in this season’s AFC Cup.

“We played Johor last season and put on a really good performance against them, so if it is to be them, it would be nice to face a side that we’re familiar with. Pahang recently had a good cup run in Malaysia and they have a good blend of foreigners and Malaysians, as does Johor,” Westwood opined.

The Blues begin their AFC Cup campaign with an away fixture against Lao Toyota FC on 24 February 2016.
