FCBU score half a dozen against BUFC

Defending champions FC Bengaluru United (FCBU) stamped their authority on the ongoing BDFA Super Division tournament with a resounding 6-0 win over Bangalore United FC (BUFC) in their third game of the league. Jairo Rodrigues (15, 22 ), Irfan Yarwad (18), local boy Manoj Kannan (38), Selwyn Miranda (44), and Lalramzhuava Khiangte (85) were the goal-scorers for the two-time BDFA Super Division Champions as they rounded off a commanding performance.

FC Bengaluru United started aggressively and were soon on the attack creating a series of chances. Six minutes Aenam K Jyrwa made the most of a Jipson Justus pass to manage a great touch into the box but failed to find anyone to seal the deal. They continued to press on and soon enough were rewarded with their first goal. Irfan and Manvir Singh’s shots on goal were blocked leading to a corner for FC Bengaluru United. Manoj’s smart cross was neatly headed in by Jairo. 

Three minutes later a cross from Manoj was headed by Jairo to Irfan who scored. Soon after, Manoj and Jairo once again combined to get FC Bengaluru United 3-0 up. A few minutes later, BUFC had their first real shot on target, which was expertly blocked by Jairo to keep them at bay. Manoj, who had played a key role in setting up the three goals, soon scored one of his own in the 38th minute – heading a corner from Manvir Singh into the top corner of the goal. Four minutes later, Selwyn Miranda struck to get FC Bengaluru United 5-0 up.

Both teams scrapped hard in the second half with FC Bengaluru United once again creating a few chances. Manvir tried a flamboyant bicycle kick off Nabin Rakha’s cross which headed over the bar, while a corner from Manoj was headed wide by Jairo. Bicycle kicks seemed to be the order of the day with Mohamad Kdouh trying one off a Chesterpaul cross, only to see it saved by the opposing goalkeeper. The 65th minute saw a good half chance from Manvir that narrowly went past the goal. A screaming freekick from Lalramzauva Khiangte crashed into the right corner of the goal as FC Bengaluru United was the perfect way to close an emphatic victory for the defending champions.

Kickstart rout BUFC, Deccan and Roots play 1-1 draw

Kickstart was seen in energetic form in their second round of BDFA Super Division League drubbing BUFC 6-0 at the Bangalore Football Stadium today. In the second match of the day, FC Deccan rally back to hold Roots FC 1-1 in a thriller. 

It was Princewill Emeka again who scored the bulk of goals for Kickstart today but not before Prashanth Kalinga opening the account in the 18th minute. The score was 2-0 in the first half. 

Abhishek Powar-56' made 3-0 after changing ends followed by two from Emeka thus completing his hattrick. 

Promising Nikhil Raj, who was loaned out to Indian Arrows and Odisha in previous two seasons respectively completed the sixth goal in the added time. 

The Roots FC versus FC Deccan game saw the latter pressing early in the game. Roots boys took time to settle down, they had to replace defender Afsal early in the game owing to an ankle injury, but defence held tight not allowing shots from the vicinity. 

While Deccan’s game was constructed mainly thru medio Shelton Nickson, their forward Lijith was troubling Root’s defence. 

Roots did manage to take control of the mid-field later in first half, they had couple of goal scoring opportunity one from a howler from opponent keeper. 

The half-time score read 0-0. 

Post lemon break saw, Roots taking charge having an urgency to score. They took lead in the 59th minute from a move that was orchestrated from defence. Nikhil controlling the ball from back gave to Amogh on the right flank, who in turn passed to Anirudh, the later played to Amogh. Anirudh again got the ball back and put on the back of the net. 

Roots joy did not long last. An inch perfect cross from Shelton reached Kaviarasan, whose free header was out of keeper Mani’s reach. There was no one from Roots defence seen following Kaviarasan’s jump. 

Roots injected three fresh players that resulted more attack from their end but could not convert to a goal.

Bengaluru FC run riot against Bangalore United

Attacker Thoi Singh put on a show at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Monday, as his Bengaluru FC side ran out 4-0 winners over Bangalore United FC, in the BDFA Super Division League. While Thoi found his name on the scoresheet twice, Monirul Molla and Omega Vanlalhruaitluanga added two more to seal the points for the Blue Colts.

The Blue Colts started the game on the front foot, creating chances aplenty in the early stages. The opening goal came only ten minutes in, when the ball fell kindly to Thoi in the box and his low driven shot had too much on it for BUFC custodian Nishit Nair to handle as it slipped through his grasp to give the Blue Colts the lead. 

Bengaluru continued to pile the pressure and almost doubled their lead when Harpreet Singh nodded the ball home from a well worked set-piece, only for it to be ruled offside. Soon after, Thoi was found in the box by Rakesh Likmabam whose low cross was converted by the winger on the bounce to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute. 

Thoi continued to impress, turning provider when he ran past a number of BUFC defenders down the left flank before sending in an inch-perfect cross for Molla, who finished with aplomb at the stroke of half time. 

On the other side of the break, Bengaluru continued to push and came close in the opening stages when Shighil ran at the BUFC defenders and chipped a shot goalward, only to be pushed away by Nishit. The Blue Colts were gifted a fourth when miscommunication in the BUFC box allowed Omega the chance to pounce and bury his strike past a hapless Nishit. 

Striker Rahul Raju had the opportunity to make it five for the Blue Colts in the last ten minutes of the game, but his shot was dragged just wide off the post keeping the score at 4-0.

The Blue Colts next face Young Challengers FC at the same venue, on Thursday, December 23rd.

 

FCBU record seventh win on the trot beating BUFC 3-0

FC Bengaluru United (FCBU) recorded their seventh win on the trot with a 3-0 victory over Bangalore United FC (BUFC). Luka Majcen scored a brace while Batskhemlang Thangkhiew chipped in with an early goal as the defending champions shone with a clinical performance in their BDFA Super Division League game under sunny skies at the Bangalore Football Stadium.

Both teams started slowly, but it wasn’t long before FC Bengaluru United hit their stride. In the 9th minute Ashraf Mondal’s long ball to Bedashwor Singh was passed to Kynsailang Khongsit whose cross to Batskhemlang was neatly chested by him into the right bottom corner of the goal to put FC Bengaluru United 1-0 up. That goal spurred FC Bengaluru United; they started to attack with greater consistency. Their efforts paid off in the 25th minute - Kynsailang’s cross to Luka was cheekily backheeled by the Slovenian striker to push FC Bengaluru United up 2-0.

FC Bengaluru United continued to attack in the second half, while not allowing BUFC to push through with any of their half chances. The defending champions were quick on the counterattack, with BUFC unable to penetrate the FC Bengaluru United defense. In the 58th minute, a smart run from the half-line was set up smartly for Luka to score FC Bengaluru United’s third goal of the match and seal a well-deserved win for them.

 

Football great Ramakrishna 'Rami' no more

E Ramakrishna, 91, popularly known as Rami expired today afternoon at his residence at Gavipuram, Guttahalli, Bangalore. He represented then Mysore state and Bangalore Blues before joining ITI and playing a major role in shaping the club’s future. 

Ramakrishna ventured outside the state and plied trade at Calcutta (1953), Madras (1954), Ernakulam (1955-), Trivandrum (1956). Also, he represented the Indian national team against a Russian team played at Bangalore in 1956.

While with ITI, Rami won all the major trophies including the George Hoover Cup (BDFA League). He was one of the pillars behind ITI winning the first edition of Federation Cup in 1977. He coached ITI for more than a decade. 

KSFA entrusted him with coaching assignment of the state youth teams. Also, he was instrumental in promoting women's football in the city. Later he joined Bangalore United Football Club, several footballers trained under him; he played an important role in shaping up their career.

 

Kickstart lift Karnataka Women’s League for second time

Favorites Kickstart FC beat another title aspirant BUFC 1-0 to win the third edition of the Intimacy Karnataka Women’s League Super Division. The league came to an exciting finish where the winner was decided in the last game.

BUFC with 19 points took the field in a must-win last-round game whereas Kickstart only needed a draw to defend the title. It was the consistent Kavya P, who scored the only goal in the 32nd minute for Kickstart thus ensuring the back to back league title. 

In the earler game played today, riding on Jyoti's second minute goal, Maatru Pratishtana defeated Misaka United. With Maatru finishing the league with 20 points and BUFC failing to secure any point against Kickstart, bagged the runners up trophy, while BUFC took the third position in the points table.

Intimacy Karnataka Women's Super Division League go down to the wire

The third edition of the Intimacy Women's League is headed for an exciting finish with the final two games set to decide who is crowned as champions. After eight rounds, the top four in the ten-team pack all have a chance to claim the Intimacy Cup. 

With 20 points at the top of the table lie Kickstart who face Bangalore United Football Club (BUFC) who are second in the table with 19 points. The two teams have a claim to the championship where BUFC must bag three points to go to the top of the table while kickstart can be crowned the champions with a mere draw. 

Meanwhile in third and fourth place are Misaka United and Maatru Pratishtana FC at 18 and 1 7 points respectively who both have a claim to the second place should the Kickstart vs Bangalore United Football Club not end in a stalemate. 

An interesting set of games await Bengaluru tomorrow as the questions to be answered are whether the defending champions Kickstart FC Karnataka will retain the crown, whether runners up Bangalore United Football Club will dethrone Kickstart FC Karnataka or whether we will see a new second place finisher in Maatru Pratishtana FC and Misaka. 

 

Two late strike from Amoolya give BUFC a winning start in Intimacy Women’s League

When it just looked like the game between BUFC and newcomers Rebels FC in the Intimacy Women’s Super Division Football League will end sharing spoils, evergreen Amoolya Kamal came up with a match-winning display. 

Captaining the Bangalore United FC squad against Rebels FC, the 2019 winners and last year’s runners up, Amoolya struck in the 87th minute.

The large band of Rebels FC  fans were vocal throughout the game but seizing a chance inside the box, Amoolya beat Tanvi Mavani with an angled drive that went in off the far post.

While that strike broke the hearts of the Rebels’ supporters, the BUFC star turned on the magic again during injury time to slot home and with two goals in six minutes it was a sad end to Rebels’ opener in the Super Division.

Earlier in the first game, Parikrma FC proved too good for Slamzers FC from Belgaum winning by a 3-0 margin. Priyanka seemed to have a poor day under the bar for the visitors as in the very 7th minute Shobana scored and then two more goals within the first quarter ended Belgaum’s hopes. Nadiya and Vaishnavi scored in the 13th and 24th minutes respectively.

Kenkre enter Hero IWL semifinal with win over BUFC, Sandhiya's four-goal haul takes Sethu too to semis

Kenkre FC booked their place in the semi-finals of the 4th Hero Indian Women’s League (IWL) after registering a 2-1 win over local outfit BUFC in their final Group B fixture at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Thursday (February 06, 2020).

Kenkre’s Asha Kumari opened the scoring before Techi Akung doubled their advantage. Amulya Kamal pulled one back for Bangalore, but that served as nothing more than a consolation. 

Earlier today, defending champions Sethu FC too confirmed their place in the semifinals in style after registering a dominant 6-0 victory over Baroda Football Academy.

Sethu’s Sandhiya had a clinical afternoon in front of goal, bagging four, with Amsavalli and Karthika adding the remaining two.

Fourth Hero Indian Women’s League to get underway from tomorrow

The fourth edition of the Hero Indian Women’s league gets underway at the Bangalore Football Stadium from tomorrow. The 21-day long tournament will culminate with the Finals being played on the 14th February. The first-ever rolling trophy for the Hero Indian Women’s league was unveiled in a glittering ceremony in the city today. Captains of the team representing all the 12 teams from 10 states were present along with Mr. Sunando Dhar, CEO, League, AIFF, Mr. Satya Narayan, Hony. General Secretary, KSFA and Ms. Maymol Rocky, Head Coach, Indian Women’s National Team. 

Kryphsa FC and Kickstart FC will lock horns in the first match on January 24, 2020. 12 teams vying for the top honours in the Hero Indian Women’s League have been divided into two groups of six teams each viz; Group A & Group B. 

Group A consists of Kickstart FC (Karnataka), FC Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Krypsha FC (Manipur), BBK DAV FC (Punjab), Sethu FC (Tamil Nadu) and Baroda FA ( Gujarat) while Group B shall comprise of Kenkre FC (Maharashtra), Gokulam Kerala FC (Kerala), Odisha Police FC (Odisha), Bangalore United FC (Karnataka), Sreebhumi FC (West Bengal), Bidesh XI FC (Goa). Two games will be played on a day at 12 PM and 3 PM. 

Each team would play a total of 5 matches in the round-robin league and the top two teams from each group will make their way to the semi-finals. The Semi-final winners thereafter would play the finals on the 14th February 2020, which shall kick-off from 2 PM onwards. 

Over INR 20 Lakhs of the cash prize is due to be won in the 4th Hero Indian Women’s League. The Champions shall walk away with the rolling trophy and medals along with a cash prize of INR 10 Lakhs, while the Runner’s UP will get richer by INR 5 Lakhs. The tournament MVP ( Most Valuable Player) would earn a total of INR 1.25 Lakhs, the best goalkeeper would get richer by INR 1 Lakh and the emerging player winner would earn INR 75000 from the tournament. The hero of the Match for each game would earn an additional INR 5000. 

This will also be the first time when a rolling trophy would be instituted for the Hero Indian Women’s League. Elaborating further on this Mr. Sunando Dhar, CEO, Leagues from AIFF said, "A rolling trophy is something which always augurs well with players and the contest gets intense amongst them. To align the premier women's league competition in India with other leagues, we have decided to shift to a running trophy this season and it'll surely push the girls further to give an extra bit on the field to lift it on 14th February."

Mr. N A Harris, President, KSFA lauded AIFF's decision to organise the final round of the tournament in Bengaluru. "On behalf of the KSFA (Karnataka State Football Association), I would like to thank AIFF for choosing Bengaluru as the host for the final round of Hero IWL 2019-20. It'll surely give a chance of the football-loving crowd of Bengaluru witness the best women football players in action over the next few days," said Mr. N A Harris, President KSFA.

He further added, "Two teams representing Bengaluru in Hero IWL isn't only going to help women's football in Karnataka but also will add a bounty point for the entire tournament. It'll surely inspire more girls from the state of Karnataka to play the beautiful game with more urge and seriousness."

The garden city of Bengaluru becomes the fourth city to host the Hero Indian Women’s League after the previous three editions were held at New Delhi (2016-17), Shillong (2017-18) and Ludhiana (2018-19). Eastern Sporting Union from Manipur emerged as the champions of inaugural edition before Rising Student’s Club from Odisha beat them in the final the following season (2017-18). In 2018-19, Sethu FC, the Tamil Nadu outfit, outplayed Manipur Police in the final to win their maiden Hero IWL crown.

Speaking about the growth of Indian Women’s Football and how the Hero Indian Women’s League has grown year after year, Ms. Maymol Rocky, Head Coach, Indian Women’s National Team, said, "Indian women’s football is on an upward swing and I would like to thank the AIFF for all its efforts in helping the growth of Women’s football in India. With global tournaments like the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to be played later this year in India, I am sure that we will get to see many more youngsters trying to make a career in football. The Hero IWL will be one of the key places for all of us to analyse talent and consider them for future roles with the national teams. The competition level in Hero IWL has risen by leaps and bounds over the last three years and we hope to see another intriguing season of Hero IWL here in Bengaluru. BUFC win KSFA Impetus Cup

BUFC girls kept their dominance intact and got through the defense of Mangalore FC to lift the inaugural Impetus Trophy Women's Football Trophy. Skipper and former India international Amulya scored the only goal of the match from an assist from Paromita Sit. 

Paromita, another international player was adjudged the highest scorer of the tournament after scoring 10 goals from 4 matches. She also received the best striker of the tournament. 

Paromita on a roll, BUFC take on Mangalore in Impetus Trophy final today

Former India international, Paromita Sit marked her class by scoring another hattrick for BUFC in the semifinal match against Parikrma in the KSFA organized Impetus Trophy for women's football tournament. BUFC defeated Parikrma 4-0. The other goal was scored by Nadia. 

Paromita has scored 10 goals in the tournament, this was her third hattrick in as many matches. BUFC take on Mangalore FC today 3 PM at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
